Along the gentle shoreline of Hilton Head Island, where coastal breezes meet refined design, I had the opportunity to photograph a stunning full-home renovation for Ellen Dier, Principal Designer at Ellen Nicole Home. Ellen’s vision was to transform this beach house into a modern coastal retreat—elevated yet warm, sophisticated yet livable.
As an interior photographer working across the Carolinas from Bluffton, Charleston, Greenville and beyond, this project was a dream to capture: flooded with natural light, grounded in a soft neutral palette, and filled with custom, thoughtful design details.
A Complete Coastal Transformation
What once was a dated property is now a light-filled, neutral-toned haven designed for both everyday living and effortless entertaining. Creams and airy blues anchor the home’s color story—inviting the beach inside without leaning too coastal or cliché. Custom furniture and high-end finishes are layered throughout, including a stunning bed from Universal Furniture that brings a sculptural focal point to the primary bedroom.
In the dining space, Palacek pieces set the tone for relaxed luxury—the dining table and chairs are perfectly paired with a textural Palacek chandelier, creating an elevated coastal moment with natural warmth.
Bunks, Beers, and Breezy Outdoor Living
One of the most memorable spaces? A custom-designed bunk room that feels like a dream for both kids and guests. Built-in stairs lead to each bunk, with shiplap detail, custom lighting, and beautiful hardware creating a space that’s as functional as it is beautiful.
Just outside, the restored pool and entertaining area offer a hidden retreat. Framed by a custom plant wall and lush landscape, it’s the perfect spot to relax after a beach day. A staged tray of Corona beers and fresh limes added a playful and welcoming touch—bringing an editorial moment to life with a bit of real personality.
Anchored by Architecture
At the heart of the home is a graceful spiral staircase, a sculptural element that connects the main floor to a game room tucked inside the watchtower—a space wrapped entirely in windows. The natural light and sweeping views made this space a standout moment, and an opportunity to balance architectural photography with lifestyle nuance.

When Ellen and I planned this shoot, our goal was clear: to showcase this transformation in a way that aligns with her elegant, detail-driven brand. Every image was captured with intention—for press features, portfolio galleries, and client presentations.
